Our Official Social Change Handbook: The Changemaker In You
The outbreak of Covid-19 has led to widespread panic and a decrease in demand for products and services across all industries, and in response, businesses have had to rapidly adapt their operations to conform to new guidelines. For many businesses, this has included a shift to remote work and an increased focus on virtual customer service. Here at HCN, where ourenterprise model was largely dependent on in-person workshops, our founder Tiyana J got creative when thinking about how she could continue to teach our theory of change framework to more young Aussies, and thus the idea for our handbook was born. Throughout the pandemic, between starting her PhD and raising money for Variety the Children’s Charity while competing in the Miss World Australia pageant, Tiyana got busy writing everything she’d learnt about what it means and how to be a changemaker.
The outcome of these months of writing, was our social change handbook: The Changemaker In You, which we are stoked to announce the release of today! Anyone who pre-ordered a copy of the book will have their signed copy shipped from ChangemakerHQ today.
“When I was in high school, I was really passionate about making a difference in the world… but I didn’t know what I could do to make a real, tangible impact.
When I finished high school, I made it my mission to spend the next few years learning everything I could about changing the world— I completed two bachelors’ degrees, travelled to over forty-five countries, undertook activism, volunteering, and internships with human rights and development organisations, was selected to attend conferences at the United Nation’s headquarters in New York, and started freelancing for purpose-driven brands. Needless to say, these experiences taught me a lot about social change, and I realised everything I’d learned about social change could be understood through a simple framework…”
Tiyana says that she “founded the Humanitarian Changemakers Network— and wrote this book— because if I had known this framework when I was younger, I could’ve spent those 5 years I was learning about social change, actually changing the world.”
Whether you’re just starting your journey as a changemaker, or you’re looking to skill up and be a better changemaker – our handbook is here to help, and a good place to start is a basic framework for social change, which gives you a clear understanding of what social change tangibly looks like and how to bring it about.
