Storytelling & Effective Communication

Throughout history, besides things like shelter and food, our ability as humans to communicate and tell stories has been key to our evolution and survival, and our ability to communicate effectively and share stories will continue to be key in tackling the challenges facing humanity. But the media is failing to act as the ‘fourth estate’ and keep citizens properly informed— and that’s why we need to harness innovative and creative ways to keep people educated and connected, like transmedia storytelling, solutions-focused news, and participatory community media. Our workshops can equip you with essential skills like storytelling techniques, how to have meaningful conversations for change, and how to use values, messaging, and framing to inspire action.

Human Centred Design

How do you know if a potential solution to a challenge is good, if it will work, or what the people affected by the issue think? You can waste your time thinking about your idea, or you can start taking action and testing it out— and testing ideas doesn’t need to be time or resource-intensive. Whether your solution is in the form of a product, service, policy, or campaign, human-centred design is a process that builds deep empathy and promote co-design and collaboration with the people you’re designing for. Our workshops can help you use human-centred design for the inspiration, ideation, and iteration of potential solutions, including; generating ideas, building prototypes, and sharing what you’ve made with the people you’re designing for.

Crafting & Testing a Theory of Change

A Theory of Change is a methodology that can be used at any stage of problem solving— for planning, participation, or evaluation— and it can be used in companies, philanthropy, not-for-profit, research, and government sectors to promote social change. Often presented as a mixture of visual content and narrative summary, a Theory of Change helps to articulate how change happens in a particular context, clarify the role of particular actors in contributing to change, and define and test critical assumptions. Our workshops can help you craft your own theory of change and be able to theoretically describe how change might happen and lay out the expected story for a challenge you’re most passionate about.

Social Change 101: A Framework For Social Change

Whether you’re new to the social change space, or in need of a fresh perspective, Social Change 101 will teach you everything you need to know about social change— to help you understand the differences between formal and informal, and individual/collective or systemic social change. It will also help you to identify your unique skills, the different ways of working as a changemaker, and your role in the social change ecosystem. By the end of the session, you’ll know the Humanitarian Changemakers Network’s signature framework for social change, have a clear vision for the future, and have crafted your very own impact statement.
